Meet the For-Purpose Kids Characters
We're the original For-Purpose Kids and we’d like to tell you a little bit about ourselves. We are Rylan, Dane, Tsz Yau (pronounced like Zee Yow, as in how), Deepu and JoJo and we're the best of friends. We like to get together and do kind things for people, the environment and animals that need our help.
We're so lucky to have everything that we need in our lives. We have healthy food to eat, clothes to wear, safe schools to go to, families that love us and strong bodies. However, not everyone is as fortunate as we are, so we need to do what we can to help them.
So Happy to Meet You!
"I like to do kind things and help people that are sick."
Hi (a greeting I like to use with a smile where I live)! I'm Rylan, I'm 10 years old and I'm the oldest of the For-Purpose Kids. I'm from Florida and I like to help people that are sick. I like to plan bake sales at my school or lemonade stands in my community to raise money for organizations that help them. I also like to do kind things for people that are sick. I volunteer to go to the hospital with my grandmother to keep her company while she's waiting for the doctor. I love to see smiles on the faces of the people I help, it makes me very happy to be able to cheer them up.
"I like to do good things for animals in my community and around the world."
Namaste! (That's how you say "hi" in Hindi, the language I speak at home). My name is Deepu and my family is from India. I love animals and I really enjoy looking at pictures of beautiful animals from around the world. It makes me upset to learn that some of these animals are hunted for silly reasons and that they're disappearing. I also don't like it when I see animals on the street without food or water. I get very excited to save some of my money to donate to wildlife conservation organizations or spend a Saturday volunteering at the local animal shelter, taking care of the animals. I like to help the animals that other people have forgotten.
"I like to do good things to protect the environment."
Nĭ hăo! (Pronounced like "Knee How"- that's how I used to say hello in China AND it rhymes with my name). I'm Tsz Yau and I'm 7 years old. I was born in China and was adopted by an American family, so I now live in the United States. I love nature and I play outside all of the time. I get very sad when people throw trash out of their cars or are wasteful by letting the water run while they brush their teeth. I volunteer at the beach once a month with my friends to pick up trash that has washed up on the shore and I always make sure we recycle things at home like cans and paper. I'm glad that I can do things to protect the environment and I want to keep learning how I can do more.
"I like to be kind & do good things for people that need food and clothes."
Howdy Y'all! (That's how we say "Hi!" where I'm from). My name is Dane, I'm 6 years old and I live in Texas with my younger brother and sister. I like to help people in my community that need food and clothes. I raise money for the local food bank by drawing pictures for donations and I volunteer with my family at the homeless shelter. There they cook food to serve to people that don't have enough to eat. Everyone is so grateful for the meal they receive that they say "thank you" to me, and that makes me feel really good inside. I like to tell my buddies about the good things I do for others and I get very excited when they want to volunteer with me.
"I like to help kids learn, even if they don't have a school to go to."
Jambo! (That's how you say hello in Swahili, where my grandparents are from in Africa). I'm JoJo, I'm 5 years old and I'm the youngest of the For-Purpose Kids. I live in England with my grandparents and I love going to school. My grandparents told me that when they were growing up in Kenya, not all kids got a chance to go to school and that there are still some places around the world where kids don't go to school. I think about ways I can help kids learn, even if they don't have a school to go to. I send books, paper, crayons and other supplies so that the kids there can do the same things I love to do in my school.
Now that we’ve told you about us, we want to know about you.
How do you want to make the world MORE awesome?
